Notes on Accessibility
[in progress]
Intersecting power relations produce complex interdependent social inequalities of race, class, gender, sexuality, nationality, ethnicity, ability and age. We are committed to addressing and accommodating these complex intersections. As a hosting organization, we see the urgency of declaring our own intersectional position. Without the stability of a publicly funded institution, members of the ensemble work on a project basis and from various socio-economic geographies. We aim to be good hosts, allies, and activists in our own right despite and because of our complex constitution. We understand inclusivity as a process and negotiation.
We want to create programs that welcome and are open to everyone. On this trajectory, we engage with global and very local inequalities. Access and inclusivity mean something different in different times and spaces. We are elaborating their meanings from Dakar, Milan and Berlin, mediating between theory and hands-on practice.
Berlin Space
Please find here information on the accessibility for our space in Berlin
We currently cannot provide an assigned parking spot.
The space in Berlin is accessible by wheelchairs, strollers, mobility scooters and walkers.
On some occasions, parts of events and exhibitions use the basement, separated by a staircase. To inquire if programming is in the basement when you plan your visit, please send us a message in advance to info@archivesites.org to find a solution.
The exhibitions and events are free of charge for everyone.
We welcome service dogs fitted with a suitable harness.
Visitors can borrow folding chairs while visiting the space. We use the same chairs for events and other public programs. If required, please ask for more sturdy chairs at the entrance.
We are eager to offer bluetooth headphones directly connected to the audio mixer if the event is amplified. On the occasions we can provide sign language-interpretation, this is mentioned in our program descriptions.
We have so far not offered audio descriptions for programs or events. We welcome a multi-sensory approach and would like to develop audio-descriptive formats. Please inquire here: info@archivesites.org.
If you have requests regarding calmer times for visits, a green room, assistance, sensory input, please contact us individually here: info@archivesites.org.
Our texts are often provided in English and in a complex language. In the future, we will try to offer more translations into other languages and die einfache Sprache (German language concept for a simple version of complex texts)—based on the availability of financial means. For digital versions of exhibition brochures, please request them via: info@archivesites.org.
We have three different kinds of toilets: one spacious and wheelchair accessible, one with seating cabinets and one that offers options for standing
Young people are welcome in the house. We also may organize care for them during events upon request. Some programs might not be suitable for a very young age. Please read the descriptions carefully and consult us in case of doubt at info@archivesites.org.
We can pick you up at the public transport station and accompany you to the space if we have some notice. Please inquire here: info@archivesites.org.
S-Bahn
In Berlin we can be reached by the S-Bahn and Bus. Take the Ringbahn (S-bahn S42 or S41) until the station “Wedding S+U”.
The station has two exits, one with an elevator one without.
If taking the stairs: go in the direction of “Nettelbeckplatz” and walk down the stairs at the end of the station. You will exit the station under the S-Bahn bridge. Now turn left and walk ca.50 meters next to the bicycle path until you reach the second traffic light crossing the road and the bicycle path to your right. Cross the street (Reinickendorfer Straße) there, and you will be at the entrance of the space.
If taking the elevator: go in the direction of “Müllerstraße” – usually the more crowded exit. On street level, cross the street to enter Lindower Straße, which runs parallel to the platform of S-Bahn station Wedding. Follow this street on the sidewalk for about 400 meters until you reach “Nettelbeckplatz” – a pedestrian round place that is plastered with bricks, except for a path that is running around the place in a circular shape. Follow this path to your right until the second traffic light. Cross the street (Reinickendorfer Straße) and you will be at the entrance of the space.
